About

Nate Porter, LCSW

Nate has been in the mental health field for 10+ years - all starting at UVU with no idea of what to study or do for a career. While navigating uncertainty, an opportunity came up to help coach Track & Field at Timpanogos High School - the key experience that shaped Nate's professional journey. Coaching gave him a window into the internal world of young athletes, helping him realize life is less about producing results, and more about developing well-being in others. With this insight he decided to become a mental health therapist - obtaining a degree from UVU in Family Studies and a Masters in Social Work from BYU. Following his education he worked for 6 years at The Green House Center, gaining experience as a therapist, supervisor and Administrative Director. All of this experience gave Nate the confidence to start Blackbird Counseling, bringing him back to where he started - helping young athletes develop mental health and well-being.
