Performing at Your Best
We live in a society that places high value on being the best, outperforming others, and proving the doubters wrong. While these focuses can drive one to achieve great results, they are all external and can prevent you from being present in your performance. This kind of focus can cause athletes to devalue their performance because it's not possible to always be the best, outperform others, or prove everyone wrong.
At Blackbird we're different. The athletes we work with place high value on being their best, which is achieved by focusing on themselves and improving the aspects of performance they can control. This kind of focus helps athletes value their performance based on consistent efforts to improve, leading to being present regardless of results.
Our Approach to Performance
Our approach to improving mental performance starts with understanding the connected relationship between the mind and body. We implement a dual approach that starts first with developing skills that enhance emotional attunement, creating the opportunity to access and unlock the natural abilities of the mind.
We believe the mind is like a light bulb - it works when it is connected to a power source. Athletes are often told to "train the mind", despite many athletes being disconnected from the internal emotional and physical experiences inside of their bodies. We work with our athletes to "tune into the body", connecting them to the power that is inside them. When the athletes we work with begin to develop this deeper connection, they often describe that their mind starts to naturally become more focused, present, and resilient in their performance. As athletes find themselves more connected to their internal experience, we are then able to work on training and working with the mind to become more effective and powerful.
